Harnessing Advanced Technology for Sustainable Forest Management

Harnessing Advanced Technology for Sustainable Forest Management

We are excited to share a new video that highlights the innovative technology being implemented in the DigiMedFor project. This video demonstrates how drones equipped with LiDAR technology, RFID tagging systems, and precision mapping tools are transforming forest management practices.

The video covers three key aspects:

  1. Drone Technology for Forest Mapping
A drone equipped with LiDAR technology maps forest areas to estimate wood volumes before and after felling operations, providing precise data for sustainable management.

  2. Geolocating Individual Trees
Advanced tools are used to geolocate trees with high accuracy, capturing vital data on tree diameter, height, and crown projection. This data helps create a digital twin for modeling forest growth and dynamics.

  3. RFID Tagging for Wood Traceability
RFID tags are applied to the base of trees to track logs from felling to processing. This system ensures full traceability of wood resources, promoting responsible and transparent forest management.

Watch the video to see how these tools are shaping the future of forestry and contributing to the sustainability of Mediterranean forests.
