New Video: Evaluating Standing Tree Quality with Just a Smartphone

A new video from the DigiMedFor project demonstrates how forest operators can assess the quality of standing trees using only a smartphone and the Trestima app.

This innovative tool captures images during a simple walk through the forest and analyzes them to deliver essential forest inventory data — including basal area, tree density per hectare, and average tree diameter. But the capabilities go even further.

Using advanced image analysis and a bucking function, the app estimates potential timber volumes by product type and calculates their market value. Additionally, each tree stem is assigned a quality score, providing valuable insight for more informed decision-making in forest management.
